On Saturday, August 3, Austinites gathered at Republic Square to celebrate Austin’s birthday at the second annual Austin’s Birthday Bash. There was something for everyone to enjoy – live music, great local food and treats, and fun activities for the whole family.
Fox 7’s Marcel Clarke emceed the event which kicked off with music by Girlfriend ATX and some fun trivia about Austin’s history with Mayor Adler. Bidi Bidi Banda’s Stephanie Bergara led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” in both English and Spanish.
The fun continued with live music by local favorites, Bidi Bidi Banda, Kalu & The Electric Joint, and Mobley. Kids and the young at heart flocked to the kids zone for face painting, balloon animals, and birthday card making. And, the party wouldn’t have been complete without delicious food and treats from Salt & Time Café, Andrea’s Eats, Popbar, and Taco Sweets.
This year marks 180 years since the city’s first plots of land were auctioned off under what we now call the Auction Oaks in present-day Republic Square. Want to know more about the history behind Austin’s Birthday Bash and Republic Square? Find out here.
