Downtown fuels the prosperity, identity and competitiveness of Austin.
Downtown has substantial economic importance to the City of Austin as a whole. In 2025, there was $21 billion in taxable value downtown; these taxes pay for education, parks and public services throughout the city. Downtown is the mightiest and densest economic driver in Austin, accounting for just 0.5% of Austin’s land area, but 11% of Austin’s total taxable value.
The Downtown Austin Alliance is committed to continuing to build vibrancy through downtown’s economic development by:
- Attracting and maintaining commercial ground-floor tenants
- Position downtown as the best place to do business
- Foster a supportive ecosystem that balances downtown’s competitive advantage with community advancement
