Rehearsals gone wrong! Queen Victoria wants a revue and calls on her favorite music makers Sullivan and Gilbert. But—Sullivan’s in love but won’t say with whom; and the Queen’s cheerfully bumbling son Alfred is flirting with the ladies (and wants to join the cast). Not to mention that Sullivan and Gilbert have been feuding for years. The songs are familiar but dances are new -- and it's almost showtime! To commemorate its 50th year of performances, Gilbert & Sullivan Austin presents this play with music for five performances only. Part docudrama, part period comedy, and definitely "Gilbert and Sullivan's Greatest Hits," this delightful revue from Ken Ludwig, author of Lend Me a Tenor, Leading Ladies, and Moon Over Buffalo, is sure to amuse! Entertaining and educating Texas audiences since 1976, Gilbert & Sullivan Austin is dedicated to spreading the topsy-turvy humor and joyful music of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. The company stages its summer grand production in June (in 2027, The Pirates of Penzance) and various musicales and events during the season. In its 50th year of performances with casts, musicians, and technical crews exclusively from the greater Austin area, the company is collaborating with Austin Playhouse to stage a five-performance run of Ken Ludwig's early success "Sullivan and Gilbert" (1983, presented at the Kennedy Center in 1988).
