Republic Square’s Blackbird Receives Public Art Award

June 15, 2019

June 14, 2019

Blackbird has been selected for national recognition for public art as part of the Americans for the Arts 2019 Public Art Network (PAN) Year in Review! Inspired by Oaxacan black pottery, the playful, large-scale sculpture was commissioned by Art in Public Places and designed by local artist Holly Young-Kincannon of Kincannon Studios.

Blackbird will be recognized at the 2019 Public Art Conference along with other projects being honored.  This year, the PAN Year in Review received the largest set of submissions in more than five years from international public art programs and artists. We are honored to showcase this stunning piece in Republic Square and share our congratulations to the artists and all who were involved in the project.
