Downtown Mobility Updates

June 27, 2019

Guadalupe & Lavaca Transit Improvements:

Construction for transit improvements to Guadalupe and Lavaca Streets began in May. During the last month, a new shared-use bicycle and pedestrian path has been completed in addition to new sidewalks on Guadalupe between 18th St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Installation of a new traffic signal at 18th and Lavaca streets began last weekend, and a new northbound contraflow lane for buses is also in progress.

Converting 17th & 18th Streets to Two-Way Traffic Patterns:

On Wednesday, June 26, the Austin Transportation Department plans to convert 17th and 18th streets between San Jacinto Boulevard and Trinity Street from one-way to two-way traffic patterns.

Rolling lane closures will be implemented with the goal of keeping at least one lane open on each street at any given time. Contingent on weather and other circumstances, it is anticipated that this will be completed within one day.
