Every year, the Downtown Austin Alliance measures the health of and outlook for Downtown Austin storefront retail businesses. This year, we completed downtown storefront inventory, sent out a survey to downtown businesses and analyzed foot traffic data.

We engaged the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) national advisory services to bring a panel of diverse experts to Austin in February 2020. They worked with the community, gathering input and ideas for the future of the I-35 corridor. Preliminary recommendations for the future of I-35 were presented at Huston-Tillotson University.

To prepare the Urban Land Institute’s expert advisory panel for their visit to study the I-35 corridor, the Downtown Alliance compiled a briefing book that served as a reference guide and high-level overview of the relevant economic, social and transportation opportunities and challenges facing the future of I-35.

Austin is one of the country's fastest-growing cities and most desirable places to live and do business. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, tourists stopped traveling, employees began working from home, conventions and live events were canceled and stores were closed. This Roadmap supplements our Strategic Plan, focusing on short and long term strategies to promote and enhance our city's resilence.

Those will influence and inform all of our work for the next two decades. We are committed to bringing this vision to fruition through leadership, advocacy, investment and collaboration.

Our team developed the first-ever comprehensive inventory of downtown parking spaces which led to the formulation of nineteen short- and long-term improvement strategies. We're working to implement these strategies through partnerships and programs like the Affordable Parking Program.
