Parks
Our green spaces are a vital part of our social and economic ecosystem.
Downtown’s parks and trails offer Austinites a shared backyard for getting to know each other, exercising, playing, enjoying events or just escaping the urban hustle for a while. The great news is that downtown is adding to and enhancing its green space over the coming years. And every week, our parks feature inviting events for people of all ages, backgrounds and interests.
Republic Square
Republic Square, located at 4th and Guadalupe Streets, has been an important central gathering place since 1839. The Downtown Austin Alliance Foundation keeps this tradition alive through diverse and inclusive programming in the park, from weekly yoga classes to cultural celebrations such as Fiesta El Grito and Austin Color Festival.
We manage the park’s operations and maintenance to keep it a vibrant and appealing place for all to enjoy. We continuously beautify and restore the gardens and grand lawn at Republic Square to make it resilient to foot traffic and sustainable in the face of substantial climate change. We also fund an overnight security patrol at the park.
Old Bakery Park
The Old Bakery & Artisan Emporium at 10th Street and Congress Avenue is undergoing an exciting transformation. It now features a new mural by Ruben Esquivel, commissioned through the Downtown Austin Alliance Foundation’s Writing on the Walls program. The Downtown Austin Alliance Foundation is managing the outdoor concession area at Old Bakery Park, and we will provide programming for the plaza.

Waterloo Greenway is revitalizing downtown’s eastern edge along Waller Creek and will offer 35 acres of connected park space once complete. The first phase, Waterloo Park and the Moody Amphitheater, offer a full calendar of arts and music events. The second phase of Waterloo Greenway, The Confluence, broke ground in 2023 and will help connect the area from 4th Street to Lady Bird Lake, including Palm Park. The Downtown Austin Alliance partners with the Waterloo Greenway Conservancy to amplify its events, and we also station dedicated Downtown Ambassadors in Waterloo Park to clean and offer hospitality daily.
