Vegan and Vegetarian Places Downtown

September 8, 2021
Vegans

Dietary restrictions can make going out to eat challenging, especially when you’re meeting with someone who does not eat a similar diet. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, here are some places that have great plant-based options that are so tasty that anyone will enjoy downtown! Most of the places listed also have meat options for your carnivorous friends.

Arlo’s

Arlo’s menu is 100% plant-based and they like to keep it that way. Enjoy tacos, burgers, and mac and cheese made with a bit of creativity and a lot of flavor. Added bonus- you’re already at Cheer Up Charlies when you come here so you may as well have some fun and support a live music venue.

Caroline’s

Caroline’s has an excellent atmosphere. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch, brunch, and dinner here with multiple vegan and vegetarian-friendly options. There are several more options for vegetarians but vegans should have a few options at every meal here.

CAVA

CAVA wants to make sure that everyone feels comfortable eating Mediterranean cuisine. They have included a vegan vs vegetarian chart on their allergen menu so you can know exactly what your options are. They also encourage you to inform your server of any dietary restrictions before you begin your order.

Flower Child

Flower Child definitely wants to make your life easier when it comes to food. Not only do they strive to bring you the healthiest meals, but they make sure healthy tastes great. They even have the oh-so-coveted Vegan vs Vegetarian distinction on their menus so you can be sure which is which.

Juiceland

All food at Juiceland (yes, there is more than just juice despite the name) is vegan. In fact, the only non-vegan product that can be found at Juiceland is made from bees. Just be mindful of that ingredient and you will bee okay. You’re supporting local here because Juiceland started in Austin.

Koriente

Koriente makes all their dishes with love, just like mom would. Their menu boasts several vegan and vegetarian options and their kitchen is void of a microwave or fryer so you know you are getting the freshest foods. The boba here is also a must. Just be sure you don’t order it in milk tea if you are vegan.

Swift’s Attic

Swift’s Attic is known for its small plates and slow-melt, flavor-infused ice ball drinks. While their menu is small and specialized, a notable amount of that menu is vegan. Vegans have a minimum of four main dishes, potentially more depending on the special. They even have a vegan-friendly appetizer and dessert.

The Well

The Well has a great patio to enjoy your meals on and the walls are covered in plants. Many of their menu items start off vegan with the option to add meat to them, so enjoy an abundance of meal options, including vegan breakfast tacos.

True Food Kitchen

True Food Kitchen is ready to fill your vegan pizza cravings and more. They have a fairly extensive vegan menu, including vegan cheeseburgers. Their menu denotes when items are vegetarian or vegan as well to make your life easier.

Velvet Taco

Velvet Taco boasts two sides for vegetarians, Elote corn and queso. They also have a whole section of vegetarian tacos. Many of their vegetarian tacos can be made vegan by simply asking for no cheese or crema.

Voodoo Doughnuts

Voodoo Doughnuts may offer crazy doughnut toppings like bacon, but they love their vegan customers. Voodoo offers a wide array of vegan flavors. This includes the Chocolate Ring, Dirt Doughnut, Maple Bar, Maple Cream, Dirty Old Bastard, Portland Cream, Raised Glazed, School Daze, and Voodoo Doll. Just make sure you ask for the vegan version because these are also non-vegan flavors. They even have a vegan variety baker’s dozen box.

Enjoy!
