ARTBOX
Large-impact murals on the smallest of urban canvases
The Downtown Austin Alliance’s ARTBOX program creates large-impact murals on the smallest of urban canvases.
Through an agreement with the City of Austin, Writing on the Walls‘ ARTBOX program provides a platform for local artists to showcase their talents and grow through painting utility box mini murals. With over 800 boxes in downtown Austin, the ARTBOX program will continue to inspire and beautify for years to come.
The Process
Each ARTBOX is carefully curated by an artist selection panel comprised of community leaders, arts and culture advocates, creatives and residents near the ARTBOX location. Each selection panel chooses an artist, approves the design and oversees the painting, installation and maintenance of the ARTBOX. Each artist’s ARTBOX design reflects the character, culture and history of the surrounding neighborhood or district, brightening the streets while celebrating what makes Austin home.
Interested artists can apply to be a part of the ARTBOX program on a rolling basis. Selected artists are paid a $1500 materials and labor stipend upon completion of their mural. Apply to be a future ARTBOX artist here.
