About the Façade Improvement Grant Program

The Downtown Austin Alliance has developed a façade improvement grant program to stimulate new investment and enhance the overall appeal and economic vitality of downtown’s commercial corridors. In its first year, the program will focus on properties located along two corridors: Sixth Street between Congress Ave and I-35 Frontage Road, and Red River Street between Sixth and Twelfth Streets.

All available funding for the current round of the Facade Improvement Grant Program has been committed. We encourage interested property and business owners to continue submitting applications, so projects may be considered if and when additional funding becomes available. Updates regarding future funding opportunities will be announced as they are confirmed.

Purpose
The program is designed to provide an economic incentive to improve the appearance of building façades along these corridors and to encourage quality renovations that enhance and are consistent with the historical design, materials, and architectural character reflected in the original buildings. Façade improvement programs have been shown nationwide to boost local economies, encourage additional investment into an area, improve safety and increase property values.
