A Brief History

Angela grew up in New Jersey, 10 minutes outside of New York City, and moved south for college. She received her bachelor’s degree in public relations and marketing at Florida Gulf Coast University, stayed in Florida a couple of years after graduating and then moved to Austin, where she is close to some of her family in San Antonio. Angela has stayed in Austin for the last three years because it feels more like a hometown than where she grew up, but also more like a city than where she lived in Florida.

In Austin, Angela has worked in association marketing and communications, where she specialized in website management, event planning and overall communications to members. She is the current President of the Young Hispanic Professional Association of Austin and Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee for the Public Relations Society of America’s Austin Chapter.

Ideas for the Future

Angela has big plans to advance the Downtown Austin Alliance through brand awareness, projects and advocacy. She will be responsible for cultivating, organizing and maintaining contacts within the Downtown Austin Alliance database. When asked about her new job, she stated, “I am very excited to be a part of the Downtown Austin Alliance and look forward to implementing my skills to this position.”

If she could change anything about downtown, she would improve accessibility. On the topic, she says, “I love coming downtown, but most of my Austin friends seem the need to mentally prepare to go downtown. Once they are here, they don’t want to leave.” She would love to make downtown more accessible to all so that everyone can enjoy the area as she does.

Hoboken

Downtown Favorites

Angela’s perfect day downtown would start early on a Saturday morning with a walk on the Anne & Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail next to Lady Bird Lake. Afterwards, she would head over to the SFC Farmers’ Market at Republic Square to check out the vendors of the week. Then, Angela would take a scooter to the Seaholm District to continue her morning shopping experience at Trader Joe’s. Once she was done, she would enjoy a nice lunch with cocktails at Polvo’s Downtown.

Her favorite spot downtown is the Second Street bridge that takes you over Shoal Creek, right next to the Austin Public Library.

She highly recommends grabbing pizza at Hoboken Pies. You should take a Jersey girl’s pizza recommendation seriously! Another hidden gem Angela loves to frequent is Codependent Cocktails and Coffee underneath the Independent.

In Her Free Time

When Angela is not working, she can usually be found hanging out with her family and friends. On the weekends, she enjoys walking around Lady Bird Lake and exploring new restaurants around Austin. She also enjoys using her creative side outside of work and working with her hands. During the holidays, she likes to knit scarves for friends and family.

Welcome to the team, Angela! We are glad to have a new, friendly face on the team and are excited to see what new ideas you will bring. We can’t wait to see how you will help us broaden our impact on downtown. Learn more about everyone on staff on our Staff & Board page.
