We love celebrating support systems and good role models. If you plan on celebrating your father or father figures this Father’s Day, let us make it easier for you. Here are some fun places to celebrate your pop and some of our favorite spots to get gifts.
Give the Best Gift
Connect Through Music
Music is a powerful community builder which can also make in personal relationships even stronger. Head to Waterloo Records to add some albums to his collection. Concert tickets also make a fantastic gift if you know their favorite band is coming to town. For a list of downtown venues and to see their schedules, check out our Live Music Venues blog post.
Keep Him Well-Read
Bookpeople is filled to the brim with exciting stories, fun things to learn and even literary-themed gifts. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful so there is no way you will leave empty-handed when searching for the right gift for dad.
Keep Him Stylish
Not all dads are fantastic at staying on top of updating their closets. If he needs to replace his favorite shirt that’s starting to get pretty hole-y, Bonobos, League of Rebels, Mugsy, Sneaker Politics and Wild About Music are some of our favorite places downtown to find clothes and shoes for men.
Support His Well-Being
Make sure your dad stays healthy and give the gift of relaxation by getting him a massage from one of the incredible spas downtown, we recommend AustinDEEP or milk + honey. You could also get him a membership at a gym/studio that he would love; there are so many to choose from in downtown. Check out our guide to staying active downtown for a solid list of options.
Celebrate The Day With Him
Unleash His Inner Child
Everyone should be able to unleash their inner child every once in a while. The Texas Toy Museum is a perfect place for that inner child to come out. You can play arcade games or learn about the history of toys (and maybe find some of dad’s old favorites). Punch Bowl Social is a fun place to spend time bowling and playing games with your dad while you enjoy a delicious menu.
Grab a Good Bite
If you subscribe to the typical take dad out for BBQ or a steak dinner kind of Father’s Day traditions, there are so many perfect spots downtown for you. Get a renowned burger from the classic Casino El Camino. Enjoy some beautiful BBQ from Ironworks, Lambert’s or Coopers Old Time Pit. Savor a sizzling steak at III Forks, Perry’s, Vince Young, Bob’s, Ruth Chris, Capital Grille, Dean’s Italian Steakhouse or Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse just to name a few.
Watch Some Classic Films
Spend some quality time together at the movies. The Sandlot and The Flash are playing at Blue Starlite Drive-In and The Maltese Falcon and The Treasure of Sierra Madrid are playing at the Paramount as part of the Summer Classic Film Series.
Spend the Day at a Museum
If your pops appreciates the arts, a museum or art tour is always a good way to spend some quality time together. You can check out the new grounds at the Blanton Museum of Art together or examine the exhibits at Mexic-Arte and the Contemporary Austin Jones Center. If the weather permits, you could even take one of our mural bike tours.
However you choose to spend the day with the father figure in your life, we hope that this guide helps you plan the perfect day downtown!
