This Spring, The University of Texas Press will publish Joe Ely's Bonfire of Roadmaps, an illustrated collection of writings from 1972 to the present. In association with UT Press, the Ransom Center will present showcase an installation of Ely;s artwork featured in the new book. For over three decades, famed Texas musician, Joe Ely, kept journals and created sketches and paintings of the people, places and things he saw as he toured across America and Europe. This installation will be nearly 50 feet long, and be like viewing a floating world or dreamscape that begins and ends in the flatlands (panhandle) of Texas, according to Ely.

Part one in a six-part series on the cities and the artists that defined Latin American art in the twentieth century. Montevideo in the 1930s takes a closer look at the work of Joaquin Torres-Garcia and Gonzalo Fonseca.
