Featured Event

Feb 10-May 5 Kate Ericson and Mel Ziegler:
America Starts Here, 1985-1995
Austin Museum of Art, 823 Congress
(512) 495-9224, amoa.org

During Kate Ericson and Mel Ziegler's 17-year collaboration, the artists produced some of the most respected conceptual art projects of the time. Their work - mostly site-specific installations - tell community stories. These artists are not particularly well-known because most of their work has been show outside major urban art centers for non-traditional audiences. And destruction or obscuring the works was often an integral part of the pieces, leaving little behind for visual study.

The Austin Museum of Art has produced a splendid showing of what remains of these artists' work - objects, archival documents, and the less site-specific sculptures that could be recreated.

Kate Ericson and Mel Ziegler: America Starts Here, 1985-1995, the exhibition and catalogue, brings this work to the attention of scholars, artists, and the public.
