Featured Event

Oct 12-14 Judith Ivey in Women on Fire
Paramount Theatre, 713 Congress
(512) 472-5470, austintheatre.org

Two-time Tony Award winning actress, Judith Ivey, struts her considerable stuff in an acting tour-de-force. Celebrate women on the move, women with a spark and women with heart.

Enjoy an evening that celebrates twelve passionate women on the verge of self-discovery - burning with passion, faith, wisdom and a desire to shop. Each woman is on fire in her own way.

The playwright, Irene O'Garden, has created fascinating characters who speak on many different levels through their classic stories of coping with life. Among the women is Fern, the mid-western housewife who wishes her 40-year-old daughter would hurry up and make her a grandmother. There is Elizabeth, a staunch New Englander who started her garden for political reasons back in the 60s; Clover, the disillusioned, high-powered ad executive; Kalisha, a strong willed and wise African-American construction worker; and Miriam, a New York gal who teaches her niece how to cope with men and shop.

With just a change of posture or variation in voice, Judith Ivey magically transforms herself into twelve distinct women.

"Bewitching?astounding?heartbreaking," - New York Times " Fresh, spirited phrasing?plumbing the secret depths of ordinary women." - Backstage

Thursday - Saturday @ 8:00 p.m.; Saturday @ 2:00 p.m.
