Featured Event

Sep 19-Jan 15 Luca Cambiaso: 1527-1585
Blanton Museum of Art, Congress & MLK
(512) 232-5171, blantonmuseum.org

The Blanton is pleased to present the first major exhibition of paintings by one of the principal figures of late 16th-century painting, Luca Cambiaso. The Blanton will be the exclusive U.S. venue for Luca Cambiaso, 1527-1585, providing a rare opportunity for the public to see first-hand some 60 paintings and 80 drawings by a fascinating artist whose work has largely remained in his native Genoa.

Cambiaso is a singular figure in the development of 16th-century style, the first great "modern" artist in Genoa, and the founder of its school's traditions, second only to those of Rome in innovation and influence through the early 18th century. The exhibition also includes comparative works that put his style in context. It is the first exhibition of Cambiaso's work in 50 years and the first presentation ever outside of Liguria.

You do not want to miss this important and rare exhibit.

Seen here: Adoration of the Magi, early 1550s, Oil on panel.

Instead of submitting and enduring the anti-Communist mania of the early '50's, Joseph Losey went to Europe to exert his creativity and AFS celebrates the results of his intriguing efforts.
