Juventud Desenfrenada translates into - youth gone wild - and appropriately describes this annual exhibit featuring a new generation of artists who challenge societal stereotypes.

Mexic-Arte Museum presents YLA 11: The Annual Young Latino Art Exhibition, which showcases emerging artists under the age of 35. The Opening Reception is Thursday, August 3rd in the Main Gallery.

YLA 11 will include artwork from Roberto Bellini Monteiro (Brazil), Catherine Berlanga (Corpus Christi), Elizabeth Garza Campbell (San Antonio), Eric Daniel Chavera (Corpus Christi), Michael García (Austin), Hector Hernandez (Austin), Joe Peña (Corpus Christi), Luz María Sánchez (San Antonio), Angel Quesada (Austin), Cesar Alexander Villareal (Austin), Jaime Castillo (Austin) and Grace Zuniga (Corpus Christi).

In addition, Mexic-Arte Museum and The Serie Project, Inc. presents Serie XIII: The 13th Annual Serie Project in the Back Gallery.

YLA 11, sponsored by Azteca America and Austin-American Statesman, runs through October 1st.

With all of the competing contexts, what does tying the knot mean for women these days? Multimedia artists Vicky Boone and Leslie Belt, Julie Hanus, Marianela Vega Oroza, Shannon Silva, Karen Skloss, Cauleen Smith and Diane Zander Mason all working in moving images and sound, explore the obsessions, repulsions, contradictions, and conflicts of marriage. The Blanton Museum of Art joins other institutions around the world in commemorating the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt's birth, with a special exhibition of his etchings. Rembrandt's Etchings will feature 23 examples of Rembrandt's work from the museum?'s collection, along with 22 works by peers and later admirers of Rembrandt, illustrating his long-lasting impact on printmaking Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (July 15, 1606-October 4, 1669) is considered one of the greatest painters of all time. He has also been called "the greatest master of etching," because of his experimentation and technical superiority with this medium.

Wordsmiths from all around the world - 80 teams - will converge on Austin for the 2006 National Poetry Slam. This is both a convention and a competition, offering workshops and daytime reading events which are free and open to the public. You'll hear many of the competing poets perform their word works in a variety of events, including a grief and remembrance reading, a group piece showcase highlighting ensemble work many of the teams create over the summer, a head-to-toe haiku battle, and the always-irreverent nerd slam, to name a few. Spread the word.
