To celebrate its first year in downtown Austin, the 2nd Street District is throwing a Birthday Block Party! In just one year, this expanding retail area has grown to include more than twenty specialty retailers and restaurants and become a source of fresh style and cuisine, as well as a gathering place as unique as Austin itself.

You?re invited to explore Austin?s newest urban destination and join in the birthday festivities, including music along the sidewalks and a variety of in-store events and special offers throughout the weekend. This gathering will benefit the Austin Children's Museum, a District neighbor and integral part of the city center, which will join in the celebration by bringing its museum outdoors.

The photo says it all. Blue Lapis Light, an extraordinary company ofdancers, masters of light, climbing and rigging experts have puttogether an amazing spectacle to send the the Intel Building off instyle!The new large scale site-specific dance production, titled Requiem, will be led by ArtisticDirector and chief choreographer Sally Jacques in collaboration with anensemble of skilled and agile technicians and performers. The building's120' concrete columns and existing floors become the stage. Dancersand climbers will ascend and descend using ropes, cloth, trapeze bars and bungee cords, to reach heights of up to 25 feet. You'll be awed by this breathtaking, only-in-Austin event. The twenty-first in a series of annual juried exhibitions, New American Talent features the work of emerging national artists working in a variety of media including sculpture, painting, photography and new media. Each work on view was selected by New American Talent juror Aimee Chang, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, California, and former Exhibition Coordinator and Assistant Curator, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles. This year's New American talent showcases the work of 59 artists from the United States, 22 of whom currently live and work in Texas. Street Closings

Friday, June 16 Juneteenth Parade

At 1:00 p.m. the Congress Avenue Bridge will close and be used as a staging area for the parade. At 2:00 p.m. the parade will go north on Congress to 11th Street, west on 11th to Colorado Street, and north on Colorado to 13th Street before entering the Capitol Grounds.

The event is expected to last about one hour.

Streets on the route and cross streets will close at 2:00 p.m. and re-open as the parade passes.
