Jun 7-11 Requiem - Blue Lapis Dance

The photo says it all. Blue Lapis Light, an extraordinary company of dancers, masters of light, climbing and rigging experts have put together an amazing spectacle to send the the Intel Building off in style!

The new large scale site-specific dance production, titled Requiem, will be led by Artistic Director and chief choreographer Sally Jacques in collaboration with an ensemble of skilled and agile technicians and performers. The building's 120' concrete columns and existing floors become the stage. Dancers and climbers will ascend and descend using ropes, cloth, trapeze bars and bungee cords, to reach heights of up to 25 feet.

You'll be awed by this breathtaking, only-in-Austin event.

Performances will be held at the Intel Building, 5th & San Antonio, three weekends in June: June 7-11, 15-18, 22-24). The opening show is a pay-what-you-wish performance to start the run.

Tickets are $20-$30 and available at door; $12 for Dance Umbrella members, students, seniors, and children. Advance purchase available through AusTix - 474-TIXS (8497).

Children can experience the magic of the arts at Children's Day Art Park. This exciting summer program features local musicians, dancers, storytellers, magicians, mimes and crafts people. Youngsters can visit the Instrument Petting Zoo (where they can see, touch and try to play the instruments), talk to symphony musicians and hear them play their instruments, see a Ballet Folklorico performance, hear a Latin jazz band, follow a real Pied Piper along the Lemonade Trail to the Magic Oak Tree and try their hands at different art projects under the Art Tent. Admission is 50¢ a child, adults free when accompanied by a child.

The Consciousness Art Movement is a premiere art event and fundraiser introducing Austin's art enthusiasts to talented local artists who support ANDORC (the Association for Nurturing the Development of Orphaned Russian Children). This evening includes a silent auction with valuable items and services donated by local artists and businesses, a gallery of beautiful paintings displayed by local artists, live performance art, and imaginative music by Havilah Tower. Proceeds from the evening supporting ANDORC's mission to send volunteers to underserved orphanages in Russia.

The annual motorcycle parade will start at 7:00 p.m. at the Travis County Expo Center on Decker Lane. The head of the parade will reach Congress Avenue about 7:30 p.m. Delays along the parade route could be upward of one hour.

Parade Route:
- South on Decker Lane to MLK
- West on MLK to Webberville
- South on Webberville to Springdale Rd.
- South on Springdale Rd. to Oak Springs
- West on Rosewood /11th St. to Congress

Additional closings/notices related to the event:
- Congress, between 2nd St. and 11th St., will be closed at 6:00 p.m.
- 2nd and 11th Streets will remain open to traffic.
- East 6th Street, between I-35 to Brazos St., will be closed at 6:00 p.m.
- Red River, Neches, Trinity, San Jacinto, and Brazos will remain open until the number of pedestrians on 6th St. requires their closure by the Police Downtown Area Command.
- Congress should be reopened by 4:00 a.m. Saturday.
- Motorcycles will be asked to park in legal parking spots or as directed within the closure area.
