Austin Museum of Art, 823 Congress
(512) 495-9224, amoa.org
As the electronic image becomes the ubiquitous means of communication today, a number of artists draw inspiration instead from the tenets of the Arts and Crafts movement of a hundred years ago. These artists use hobby and craft skills, including meticulous hand-beading, sewing, quilting, silhouette cutting, collaging and collecting. Their two- and three-dimensional contemporary works negotiate a path between organic and geometric form, between the pixilated and the painterly. On opening day - May 13 - join Over + Over artists Tom Fruin, Victoria Haven, Lisa Hoke, Elizabeth Simonson, and Rachel Perry Welty for a walk through of the exhibition.

Again + Again: Cycles in Video and Light presents eight video and light projects that engage repetition in diverse, sometimes obsessive, and always reflective ways. The works, drawn from the Museum's and six private Austin collections, push our perception of the limits of stillness and movement. A variety of technologies are represented, while the techniques featured include still image morphing and moving image montages, computer-generated imagery, mechanical manipulation of hardware screen, and documentary filmmaking. This is visual candy you'll recall again + again.
