Nov 12-Jan 15 The Art of Dr. Seuss
Austin Museum of Art, 823 Congress
(512) 495-9224, amoa.org

Uniquely "Seussian." That's the only way to characterize the playful, enduring art of Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss. You'll see the entire breadth of the artistic vision of this iconic American during The Art of Dr. Seuss.

Seven decades of work are filled with deft illustrations, modeled sculpture, oil
paintings, advertisements, World War II political cartoons, and illustrations from Geisels most famous ventures - forty-four children's books filled with inventive characters and clever humor.

Throughout his career Geisel single-handedly forged a new genre of art somewhere between the Surrealist movement and the inspired nonsense of a child's doodles.

The Art of Dr. Seuss celebrates the life of this American genius.

The exhibition also features a selection of illustrations from The Lorax, lent by the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum at the University of Texas.

On Saturday, November 12, enjoy Family Saturdays at AMOA-Downtown and make a "Seussian Chappeau." Once you've enjoyed the exhibits, visit the community room to create your own Seuss inspired hat! Assorted materials will be available so you can strut your stuff in an original work of art. Drop in and create - Families: $7; Member's Families: $5.
