On Friday, July 8 Downtown welcomes the opening of a new intimate gallery, located in the historic Carriage House at the corner of 8th and Nueces. The Carriage House will be open Monday-Wednesday by appointment, Thursday-Friday: 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., and Saturday: 1:00 -3:00 p.m. A reception for the opening show, "Assemblages" by Christopher Hynes takes place 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. on July 8. The Austin Museum of Art (AMOA) announces "Second Saturdays are for Families," a new program from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. that invites families to drop in on the second Saturday of every month to make and take home art! Experiment with paper punch and collage techniques with experienced art educators to design and complete your own collage. Your work will be inspired by the art of Charles Mary Kubricht, whose exhibit, "Scanning the Grand Canyon," is now on display.

Learn how milk gets from the cow to the store with demonstrations on a live cow with the Mobile Dairy Classroom. Tour a dairy truck and meet Elsie in costume. This new exhibit pays tribute to 100 years of moviemaking in the Lone Star State. Texas' own homegrown filmmakers take the spotlight, from the unique vision of contemporary directors to the work of historic Texas-based production companies. See artifacts from more than 80 films, including the oil-drenched clothes donned by James Dean in Giant (1956), the vintage Chevy Bel Air police cruiser from Sin City (2005), lobby cards for The Sugarland Express (1974) and Cloris Leachman's Oscar for Best Supporting Actress (pictured) in The Last Picture Show. The whole family will love this one!
