Be a part of the City's largest Independence Day Celebration! Well over 100,000 people will gather at Zilker Park.

The Austin Symphony will be under the apt baton of ASO Music Director, Peter Bay. The HEB Austin Symphony 4th of July Concert and Fireworks will feature patriotic music and the ever-popular "1812 Overture," which will be punctuated by 75-millimeter Howitzer cannons courtesy of Texas National Guard Salute Battery.

The spectacular music will also be accompanied by fireworks over Town Lake. It's a terrific way to salute America on its 229th birthday. Fun starts at 8:30 p.m.

Free shuttle service will be provided from the State Parking Garages to Zilker Park. Check out street closings for affected streets.

Nothing and no one are spared during this racy, raucous ribaldry. Rob Williams headlines with his insane sandwich-making and vintage vaudeville. The Texas legislature is a prime target, as are gubernatorial politics, including the "Keep (not just Austin, but) Texas Weird" candidate, Kinky Friedman. Hilarity at its finest...always. "Maestro" is crash-and-burn elimination comedy, formatted like "American Idol." Austin's virtuoso improv comedians are put through their paces, and you - the audience - score and vote for who is to advance. The survivor will be proclaimed "Maestro" and receive a crisp new Canadian $5 bill. Shows every Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. through August 13.

As the work is approached experientially, the viewer's involvement is transformed from a limited physical engagement to include psychological, emotional and sociological responses." Several roads will be closed for pedestrian safety and to facilitate shuttle buses. In the downtown area, the following streets will be closed at noon and re-opened at 11:00 p.m.

  • Barton Springs Road, between Robert E. Lee and Rollingwood Dr.
  • Trinity Street, between E. 12th and E. 15th
  • E. 12th, between Red River and Trinity

Jul 4 Silicon Laboratories Relay

The Silicon Laboratories Relay will begin at 7:00 a.m. and will be a five-leg team relay race through downtown Austin. The race will include two 5Ks, two 10Ks, and a 12K. The following downtown streets will be closed from 5:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.:

  • Cesar Chavez, between Mopac and IH-35
  • Guadalupe, between Cesar Chavez and W. 4th
  • W. 4th, between Guadalupe and San Antonio
  • San Antonio, between W. 4th and W. 3rd
