Launched last fall, the public restroom pilot continues in its third location near 6th and Red River. Last week, Gigi Barnett from KXAN and Courtney Schoenemann from CBS Austin spoke with our vice president of operations, Bill Brice, on the impact of the restroom facility in the first few months of the program.

“From September 28, the day the pilot began through January 2nd we had over 11,280 users so that averages out to about 120 per day and 4.4 per hour so it’s been highly successful,” Bill Brice said in an interview with CBS Austin. The highest number of uses was 150 recorded one Saturday in December.

One of our downtown ambassadors is stationed there every day from 6:00 am to midnight to track usage, monitor, and clean the restroom but the facility remains open 24 hours a day. The pilot continues until March with one or two more test locations planned. Watch the stories to hear from a frequent visitor and a business owner on the impact of the project.
