This week's Austin Business Journal ViewPoint features an op-ed by Downtown Alliance president/CEO De Peart on the issue of homelessness in downtown Austin. In the piece, De outlines the collaborative efforts of the Downtown Austin Alliance, ECHO, and the city of Austin's Innovative Office to develop a comprehensive plan to address this growing problem.
Below is an excerpt:
We urge all business, government and community leaders to act now and join us to protect those who are homeless and prevent others from experiencing homelessness. Achieving this will result in a stronger community and a downtown that is a welcoming hub for Austinites and visitors.
To that end, Downtown Austin Alliance, ECHO, and the city of Austin’s Office of Innovation are partnering to lead the development of a collaborative plan to address homelessness in Austin.
We are working with a wide range of local leaders and advocates and will keep the community apprised as the plan is developed. Solving this challenge can only be accomplished through a collaborative effort with all involved.
Together, we will work to help those who are in need for the betterment of all of Austin.
