Streetscapes

Making finding your way more enjoyable.

The DAA encourages streetscape improvements that make getting around downtown safe, easy and pleasant.

One of the Downtown Austin Alliance’s goals is to improve access to and mobility within downtown Austin. Making our streetscapes more appealing, like what is found in the Second Street District, increases pedestrian traffic.

Great Streets Master Plan

The City of Austin’s Great Streets Development Program improves the quality of downtown streets and sidewalks, aiming ultimately to transform the public rights-of-way into great public spaces. The DAA was instrumental in selecting and prioritizing streetscapes for improvement.

Great Streets Master Plan: Scheduled Projects

East Second Street Phase III – Congress Avenue to Trinity Street

Federal Courthouse Sidewalks – All block faces

West Eighth Street – Congress Avenue to West Avenue

East Third Street – Congress Avenue to Trinity Street

Colorado Street – West Third Street to West Sixth Street

other projects

Most of our work falls under Great Streets, but we do advocate for other improvements such as the I-35 makeover project of 2011. The parking area and art installation under I-35 at Eighth Street provides a vital link between downtown and East Austin.
